To mark the 75th anniversary of the NIHSS building, time capsule was placed in the school’s parking area, to be sealed in 2025 and opened in 2050 for the building’s centenary. The building originally opened as the Princess Elizabeth Nurses’ Home in 1950, training Seychellois women in nursing, and later evolved into the School of Nursing. In 1983, it became the School of Health Studies under Seychelles Polytechnic and the Ministry of Education and moved under the Ministry of Health following post-secondary reforms in 1999.
New programmes, including a Diploma in Social Work in 2002, elevated it to the National Institute of Health & Social Studies. The institute relocated to North East Point in 2011 while the original Mont Fleuri building was rebuilt with its historic façade preserved. In January 2023, the institute returned to Mont Fleuri, blending modern upgrades with heritage elements.
This milestone year offers an opportunity to honour the building’s legacy and inspire future generations.
